Klaipėda City

51 km

Numerous bomb shelters were established in various locations in Klaipėda during the World War II, all designed for temporary protection if the city was bombarded. Most of them were designed as tunnels thus it started a rumour that there is a network of tunnels under the city that connects the castle mound to the current Sea Museum. Even though none of the existing shelters are officially open some of them are accessible for exploration. While on Klaipėda city route you will also visit the Klaipėda Castle and Bastion Complex, the castle mound, Neringa Fort, the Klaipėda Defence Ring and the bunkers and batteries that it contains as well as the mounds of Žardė, Kuncai and Purmaliai.
